A Guide to Borrowing Equipment for BA Media Students

Booking Equipment

  • Only the students and staff of BA Media course may access equipment from the list UBAMED...
  • Students must complete equipment work shop and training before borrowing. Risk assessment form should be submitted to ba-kit@ucl.ac.uk along with the bookings, otherwise equipment won’t be handed out.
  • The user is responsible for all equipment for the duration of the booking. Equipment should not be passed on to another user.

Loan Condition

Late return policy

  • Late return of equipment impact others’ borrowing and work. To prevent this, we have a suspension policy: late return, or an overdue item will result in a loan account suspension.
  • We retain the right to decline service to individuals whom we perceive to be in breach of our Loan Procedures. Account suspension may occur if violations of our Loan Procedures are identified.

Loss and Damage

In the event of damage or loss of items, borrower is liable for their replacement. It is mandatory that all equipment is returned in the same condition it was loaned. As the owner of the booking, you are accountable for any missing or damaged equipment, and you will be held liable for it. We recommend against loaning out equipment on behalf of your peers or colleagues to avoid any ambiguity in liability for loss or damage.

In the event of an item that you borrow being stolen, it is important to notify both us and the local police. The police will provide you with a crime reference number which you must inform us of. This will ensure that you are not held accountable for failing to return the item.

Renew

If you no longer need a piece of equipment, you had previously booked, make sure that you cancel your booking either by clicking cancel button or by emailing us at ba-kit@ucl.ac.uk. This will allow others to make use of it. If you want to renew or extend your loan please do so by creating a new booking and bring the old booking equipment back. You need to do so so that you can fill the new risk assessment form.

Condition of Returns and Open hours

All items must be returned by the borrower in the same condition as they were received. Although we try our best to ensure kits are kept complete, we may occasionally miss something. So, we highly recommended that borrowers check items when checking them out and before returning them to avoid the misunderstand. Any damage reported or detected once the items are in the borrower’s possession will be the borrower’s responsibility.

We don’t accept out-of-hours returns. It is the borrower’s responsibility to choose a return date and time that suits their schedule and ensure that they can return the items by the selected time.

To return items, you need to do it in person, at the kit store location where you collected thee booking, during the store’s opening hours. Bookings won’t be accepted by other staff members outside of these hours, unless you’ve made special arrangements beforehand.

Please double-check your booking details and the opening hours of the resource store carefully. And please don’t leave the equipment outside or at any other location unattained.
